Accessible and Exceptional Service
While keeping our pulse on our client’s social and community needs, Berkshire Center for Justice provides pro bono and sliding scale legal representation to indigent and low income, underrepresented, and disenfranchised neighbors.
Berkshire Center for Justice “Fills The Gap”
A relatively small number of people have the financial resources to hire an attorney for an extended period of time.
Only a small percent of
the population qualifies
for services from the
Legal Aid organization.
We offer legal services
to everyone who needs
legal representation
but can not afford to
pay standard fees.
Government court statistics show that 11% of plaintiff litigants and 97% of defendants represent themselves in Eviction Non-Payment proceedings.
Our Solution
A client receives exceptional legal services and, if appropriate, thorough access to social services, an effective solution for persons whose legal issues are usually entwined with other needs. In the process, we improve community health determinants.
By addressing legal and social needs together, Berkshire Center for Justice gives clients the supports they need to be better participants in their legal matters.
“I brought a complicated landlord situation to BCJ at a Free Legal Clinic at the Guthrie Center. She explained everything so clearly and reasonably—no one does it better than BCJ!”
